Italian Village (landsby i Italia) published in the magazine “Malegleder- January 2005” of Norway.
By Jariya Kiranantawat, Thailand

The design is from a photo of Sefrafratte, a small town in Italy. Since the picture is too wide, I tried to place the focal point on the church at the upper right hand side, made my own composition to fit in the 10” porcelain plate, and kept the details: perspective, colours and atmosphere as much as possible. I painted 3 replicas of the same view for one client, but with different painting techniques, also different looks. The first one has more details, the second one is impressionistic style, and here is the third one.

Colours:
Sky: cobalt Blue. Buildings: Light Yellow, Mid Yellow, Yellow Brown, Red Brown. Trees: Light Yellow, Mid Yellow, Blue Green, Red Brown, Black. Background: Blue Violet, Black.

First Fire:
Freehand sketch the view on the plate by using Stabilo #8046. I started from horizontal line, and the church, then all buildings and the road to the church. The view from photo had light from upper right -hand side, then shadow directed to lower left-hand side. I started painting from the sky and buildings. Fire at 820 degrees Celsius. Slow-drying oil mixed with paint powder applied. I used several sizes of square brushes. A stippler brush was needed for painting trees.
Second Fire:
Repeated the procedures of painting buildings as on the first fire to make them darker, and then painted windows of each building, trees, field, roads and cars. For painting trees, I used a stippler brush to make leaves.
Third Fire:
Repeated the process from the second fire, deepening values to achieve three-dimensional look, then background.
Tips:
1. The composition should be changed to fit the plate, while still looking like the photo.
2. I always mix the colours to achieve my own palette.
