As a SPM subscriber I read about your angel competition and immediately became interested.
I hope my angel will fly into the hearts of the competition judges.
I painted my angel onto a porcelain plate. I used oil based colours and fired the piece six times.
The Thai people believe angels to have a radiating circle either around their head or the whole body. The appearance of an angel can be western or it can be Thai. It is fashionable in Thailand to
look western. Many successful singers, film stars etc change their appearance to please their public.
I painted Thai clothing and a traditional Thai crown for my western angel. Porcelain painting has
been my hobby since 1996. During my journey to Italy, in the spring 1996, I saw a lot of European art.
I was particularly charmed by Michaelangelo’s paintings in the Vatican’s Sistine Chapel. In the same
year I started porcelain painting in the Hobby House under the guidance of a visiting teacher, San
Do. I have also studied the American porcelain painting technique. My whole-hearted thanks to all my teachers. Jariya Kiranantawat
The diameter of the plate is 25 cm. A special mention in the angel competition. |
