Jariya Kiranantawat teaches
porcelain painting, with the American technique, to adults in her
studio in Bangkok. Powder colours are mixed into open oil and pieces
are fired at
800 ðC.
Jariya’s studio also has a
painting class for children. On the pictures of this double page,
8-year old Grace, 9-year old Nick and 11-year old Bomb introduce
their pieces of work. Their mothers often visit the studio to see
their children’s progress.
Jariya teaches the children
what is known as the European technique. She starts with drawing
and free sketching of the pictures onto the surface of porcelain.
Then, brushwork is practiced. Colour theory and picture design are
also part of the teaching program.
The children paint with to us
familiar ready mixed Pebeo porcelain colours. They are “baked” fixed
onto the surface of porcelain at 150ðC. Familiar flowers,
butterflies, pets and children are used for themes. They are welcome
presents for family and friends. |
